About me

I'm Kristin Bure, therapist and owner of Soulshine Therapy Services. I am a Master’s Level graduate of the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work. I hold dual licensure by the NC Social Work Board as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and the NC Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board as a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS). I have over a decade of clinical therapy/counseling experience.

I have experience providing individual and group therapy in various settings (in-home, community, office) for the treatment of a breadth of mental health and substance use disorders including, Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders, Bipolar and Depressive disorders, Trauma/PTSD, Addiction, and dual disorders (co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse) from working on an Assertive Community Treatment Team in Asheville.

In my practice, I work with various mental health and emotional wellness concerns. I specialize in working with individuals struggling with dual-diagnosis (mental health and substance use), substance use and addiction, self-medication with substances issues, and those working to maintain recovery. I have worked with those using a variety of substances, and those in all stages of substance use and recovery. I can meet you where you’re at, and join with you to move towards recovery or assist you in Relapse Prevention. I support Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) ex.- Methadone, Subutex, Suboxone, Vivitrol maintenance clients and am happy to work with your prescriber with your permission. I value working within the harm reduction framework, and serving those experiencing struggles around IV use, HIV, Hep C, etc.

While completing my Master's Degree, I provided office and community based individual and group therapy as an intern with The UNC Chapel Hill’s STEP (Schizophrenia Treatment and Evaluation Program) Community outpatient clinic to assist individuals dealing with serious mental illness and/or substance use challenges to make strides towards health and recovery. Additionally, I have provided counseling services to individuals, families and groups at a community center in Durham, NC, and have worked frequently with those experiencing homelessness and transitional living in numerous communities in NC. For nearly 10 years, I've worked in Asheville and the surrounding WNC area closely with individuals, families, and systems for those with Mental Health, Substance Use, and/or Intellectual/Developmental Disorders, and I have a wealth of knowledge of available MH/SU/IDD resources locally.

Y’all means ALL. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally. I openly welcome immigrants and refugees. In addition to individual wellness and treatment of Mental Health and Substance Use, I have a significant passion for equal rights and social justice advocacy. I have committed myself to matters involving anti-racism, gender, sexual orientation/expression, ethnicity, culture, mental and physical wellness, religion and socioeconomic status. As a Social Worker, I am deeply committed to the NASW Code of Ethics.
